Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge is most known for its role in the Manhattan Project – a massive operation conducted by the US, Britain, and Canada in an effort to develop the atomic bomb. The Oak Ridge National Laboratory was the central focus for this effort and the lab still remains a major player in technology and development in the world. The area is renowned for science and learning and features several great museums and other places of learning. It is no surprise that the schools are some of the best in the area. Housing in the area is quite unique, as well. Many of the homes were built to house the workers for ORNL and a majority of these homes still remain today. There are additionally many newer developments with housing prices ranging up into the upper brackets. Oak Ridge enjoys close proximity to Melton Hill Lake, and features excellent dining and shopping opportunities.
